On the 27th January 2009, Graham Dodds was invited by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors to attend an All Party Parliamentary lunch at the House of Commons in Westminster.
The subjects for debate were training, education and lack of formally qualified skill within the roofing sector. The guest speaker Lord Brook stated in his speech it is predicated that 70% of all construction work within the next 5 years was to be government funded and it was governments concern that the roofing element in particular was too met by companies who could demonstrate competence through formal qualifications.

Welcome to Glen who has joined the team this month as a Contracts Supervisor. He will be responsible for the efficient management of contracts, adding a new dimension having previously been employed as a building inspector by the N.H.B.C.
Congratulations to Josh who won the Silver Medal at the National Skillbuild Competition in the Roof Slating & Tiling category. Josh has also received an Award for Excellence and been named Apprentice of the Year for the Third Year Roof Slating & Tiling Group at Leeds College of Building. This is the 10th time a Dodds Roofing Apprentice has received an Award for Excellence from Leeds College of Building.
Well Done to all those who completed the Great North Run early this month - all the training was worth it in the end!
Kev is due to start his training at Leeds College this month. He will begin working towards his NVQ Level 2 in Roof Slating & Tiling.

Congratulations to Tanya who has passed her final Accountancy exams and is now fully qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant.
Well Done to Phil & Josh who have now completed their NVQ Level 3 in Roof Slating & Tiling after lots of hard work. They will now be able to apply for their Gold Advanced Craft CSCS cards to prove that they are more then competent in their roles.
Congratulations to Simon who has successfully completed his second year at Hull College. He has achieved the BTEC National Certificate in Construction and will continue to work towards his BTEC National Diploma in September.
Congratulations to Josh Barker who will be representing the North of England in the National "Skill Build" Competition taking place at Leeds College of Building in October 2008. This will be the 5th consecutive year that one of our apprentices has taken part in the competition.
We would like to advise all our customers that from 31 May 2008 we will no longer be trading as Roofing Merchants. From this date we will operate as Roofing Contractors only.
However, after 31 May 2008 materials that we carry on stock will be available to buy on a cash and carry basis, while stocks last.

Congratulations to our Apprentices John Dervey and Ian Marshall who have now completed their NVQ Level 3 in Roof Slating & Tiling and to Josh Barker and James Denton who have just completed their NVQ Level 2. Congratulations also to Graham Dodds and Simon Hornby. Graham has achieved his NVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Management and Simon has completed hie BTEC National Award in Construction.
Thanks to the effort of everyone involved we have completed a large re roofing scheme. Removing the existing roof coverings of 59 occupied houses at Denison Road, Pocklington and re roofing in partnership with East Riding County Council, Hall Construction Ltd and Sandtoft Roof Tiles Ltd. The project was delivered on time, within the budget and fixed in accordance with the BS 5534 ‘Code of practice for Slating and Tiling’
Dodds Roofing Services are now recognised as installers of Icopal Single Ply Roof Membranes.
John Dervey has successfully competed in the Skill Build Regional Final and will go on to represent the North of England in the National Final in October this year.
We are very proud to have been awarded an NHBC "Pride in the Job" Certificate for our contribution to the works carried out for A & D Sturdy Builders at St Andrews Court, Rillington.

Well done to Jayne & Jenna who completed Race For Life at Bridlington this month to raise money for Cancer Research. Good luck to Tricia who will be running it in August at York.
It has been announced that, for the fourth consecutive year, one of our Third Year Apprentices will be representing Leeds College of Building in the Roof Slating and Tiling Section of the Skillbuild Competition. The regional Final will take place in July when John Dervey will compete to win a place in the National Final later this year.

This month we have welcomed a new addition to our team; Jenna has joined us as an Administration Assistant in the Contracting Department.
We have recently won a prestigious contract to roof almost 700 properties, which will form a new coastal village at Filey in North Yorkshire.
Four more candidates have registered to work towards an NVQ Level 2 in Roof Slating & Tiling through the On Site Assessment & Training Route with Leeds College of Building.
Congratulations to the six members of staff who have just successfully completed the “Three Peaks Challenge” which involved cycling to the 3 Peaks, walking them and then cycling home, raising over £3000 for Leukaemia Research. A big thank you goes out to all of you who made such generous donations to this worthy cause.
