What is Slate?
Slate is a natural product unlike many other roof coverings.
It is a fine grained metamorphic rock of sedimentary origin, which is formed when ocean and riverbed sediments are compressed and heated by the earths crust.

Why Slate? Apart from its natural beauty, slate is exceptionally durable, unaffected by normal extremes of temperature and is highly resistant to acids, alkalis and other chemicals. It retains its natural colour even in UV light and is impermeable to water, Slate roofs last hundreds of years and require little, if any, maintenance during its many years of service. The guarantees supplied for slates far outweigh those of modern materials. On average, slates will have a 75 year guarantee compared with a 10 or 15 year guarantee as supplied for synthetic materials.
Supply Dodds Roofing Services Limited only supply new slates that are quarried under the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system to ensure that all slates supplied have the assurance of conformity to customer and applicable international regulatory requirements. All new slates can be supplied with an Accompaniment Document / Declaration of Conformity (please request at the time of placing an order). All new slates comply with the following standards as a minimum as well as conforming to NHBC standards / Zurich warranty standards.

Alternatives to slate such as synthetic materials can save you money at the time of installation, but slate will last you a lifetime compared with the alternative synthetic option making slate the more economical and permanent choice for your project.

We also carry stocks of a wide range of reclaimed slates for use on our projects, all of which are inspected and graded to guarantee quality. Extensive stocks enable us to match the size, colour and type to existing products. We currently have large quantities of clay pantiles and gaelic pantiles.
